In memory of my father Walid Abou Zahr

Today marks the 16th commemoration year of my late father Walid Abou Zahr’s passing.

A prominent media owner and a writer celebrated for the fearlessness of his pen, he faced over 8 attempts on his life.

With the independence of Lebanon as his lifetime battle, he always stood strong for his beliefs and for decades defended causes many were too afraid to touch.

Forced into exile in 1976, after a military attack against his offices in Beirut, he moved to Paris to create an even more powerful media that would impact the political Arab scene for decades to come. Another terrorist attack on his organization in 1982 will shake his Paris’ offices once again but not his soul, nor his determination.

My father’s resilience and humanity were legendary. Every day of his life was a lesson, be it in willpower, compassion, or consistency.

When I remember his eventful life, I realize that every tough moment I have encountered so far, from taking over when he passed away, or living through the Arab Spring in Egypt to the current Covid-19 situation really seem like a walk in the park.
